Guardianship and Administration

SACAT deals with guardianship and administration matters including appointing guardians or administrators, consenting to certain medical treatments and issues relating to Advance Care Directives.

Urgent hearings

For urgent after hours calls about guardianship contact the Office of the Public Advocate  (external site)on 1800 066 969 for details of their emergency out of hours service. If an urgent hearing is needed, OPA will contact SACAT and arrange a hearing time as quickly as possible.

  • Vary or revoke a guardianship or administration order
  • Make orders about a guardian’s powers
  • Provide advice, direction or approval to a guardian or administrator on the exercise of their powers

  • Resolve issues relating to Advance Care Directives
  • Resolve issues relating to consent to medical treatment.
  • Make or change a power of attorney (except by making an administration order)
  • Make or change a will
  • Change the decision of a guardian or administrator
  • Resolve a complaint about a residential facility or other agency
