Once you have submitted your application, nothing further will happen until SACAT receives and commences your application.

When is my application received by SACAT?

If your application is submitted during SACAT’s opening hours, it is taken to be received at the date and time it is submitted.

SACAT's opening hours are 9.00am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).

If your application is submitted outside of SACAT’s opening hours, it is taken to be received on the next business day after the application arrives at the SACAT.

Once your application is received by SACAT will also receive a copy of your application from SACAT (which will show the information you entered into the online application form).

This copy of your application will also provide you with a SACAT reference number which you should use whenever you contact SACAT.

When is my application commenced by SACAT?

Once an application is received, it must then be commenced by SACAT for anything further to happen. An application is considered commenced on whichever is later:

  • The date and time that the application is received by the SACAT or
  • If a fee is required for the application, the date and time the fee is received, or the fee is waived or postponed (generally applications made for the appointment of a guardian or administrator do not have a fee)

If your fee has been postponed but is not received by the postponed date, your application is taken not to have been made or lodged.

What happens next?

Once SACAT has received and commenced your application, SACAT begins to progress your case so that it can be resolved. This may include by referring your matter to a conference or hearing.

The next contact you may have from SACAT includes a notice of a conference or hearing. SACAT may also contact you to request further information so that SACAT can progress your application.

How long will it take for my application to be listed for a hearing?

Every matter at SACAT is different and the time for your matter to finalise may differ depending on its complexity.
